Courtney Faye Powell is a director and producer from North Carolina, now based in New York City. Her short film, The Surf Report, screened at New Orleans Film Festival in 2016, Baltimore International Black Film Festival, Boston, Seattle, and Montreal’s LGBT Film Festivals, East End London, Outside Diffusion Paris, and Queer Kampala, Uganda's historic first LGBT festival. It is available for streaming and on DVD from TLA Releasing.

Her next short, The Future Is Bright, premiered at RiverRun in North Carolina and has continued its festival run at Marfa, Woods Hole, Sidewalk, Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, New Orleans, Tacoma, Citizen Jane, Baltimore International Black Film Festival, Cucalorus, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture’s Inaugural Film Festival at the Smithsonian.

She graduated from Harvard University and has worked as a Creative Director for Viacom, creating content for Comedy Central, MTV, Vh1, and Logo. Her short documentary for Levi’s “Go Forth” campaign won a GLAAD award. She was nominated for Emmys in 2013 and 2018 for producing digital projects for The Daily Show and RuPaul's Drag Race. Her short film script, “The Frog”, won best short screenplay at New Orleans Film Festival 2018.
