Trailer for short film that I directed and co-edited that premiered at RiverRun International Film Festival and was an official selection of New Orleans, Marfa, Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard, Tacoma, Citizen Jane, Cucalorus, Sidewalk, and the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture Film Festival among others this festival season.
The film focuses on Karen, a newscaster preparing her segment the night before a deadly clash between Communist union organizers and the Ku Klux Klan at a rally in Greensboro, NC in 1979. I have also written a feature script that expands the story to explore the worlds of the union organizers, the violent white supremacists, and the newsroom that follows the case from its bloody beginning to its unsettling conclusion.
My short film, The Surf Report was an official 2016 selection of the New Orleans Film Festival, The Baltimore International Black Film Festival, The Seattle Queer Film Festival, Massimadi Festival in Montreal, The East End Film Festival in London, Green Mountain Film Festival, and Queer Kampala, Uganda's historic first LGBT film festival. It is available on DVD and streaming from TLA Releasing.
As a Creative Director at Comedy Central, I oversaw all production and post for Comedy Central’s Snapchat channel for over a year, producing a daily edition of 5-10 pieces of content. This is a sample edition with topsnaps swiping up to shorform comedy content, all produced, directed, and edited by my team. Hope you enjoy vertical video! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I walked into a new job as Creative Director at Comedy Central to find a 10-episode project that had been shot but had been languishing in post for months. I hired new animators, completely overhauled the edit, and got the episodes out in three weeks. It was hard work, but I was rewarded with an Emmy nomination for Short-format Program this digital series for The Daily Show.
Key + Peele + Cats = Dream Job. Directed, produced, and supervised edit.
As the network expanded the RPDR franchise into a spinoff makeover show, I directed a series of fun spots mixing live-action drag queens and animation to launch a new season.
I recently directed a one-hour Facebook Live for the last season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The queens were introduced, were interviewed live taking questions from the Facebook audience by Sasha Velour, then ended the whole SHEbang with a runway walk-off. Ten queens in a LIVE camera switching environment was intense, but we were rewarded with an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media.
As a senior producer, director, and editor for Logo, I created hundreds of promos, commercials, on-air specials, and social media spots to build the brand from launch. For this spot, our client Orbitz wanted to connect their brand to "RuPaul's Drag Race" in a campy, eye-catching spot that appealed to the show's devoted audience.
It was a joy to get to direct Kate McKinnon in one of her first TV promos, long before SNL or Ghostbusters. Still one of the funniest actors I've ever worked with.
I wrote, produced, and directed this on-air :60 for Absolut, working with the brand from pitch to post to celebrate their 30-year history in a most unusual way. Five drag queens, five eras, one outrageous spot.
I edited, produced, and directed segments of this video for the immensely talented Ava Luna. I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with them on many projects and always look forward to helping make their visions a reality.
Another Ava Luna monster mash. I edited and produced this one.
I directed this GLAAD and Creativity International Award-winning on-air series chronicling Levi's rich history of support for the LGBT community by blending the voices of real employees with Levi's "Go Forth" campaign.
If you need advice for a trip, who better to ask than someone who travels for a living? I produced and directed profiles of travel writers for Expedia, helping position their brand as the most trusted expert for booking online.
I edited and post-produced this trailer for documentary Emmy-nominated director Stephanie Wang-Breal.
